Ship orders with a courier

Connect Shiprocket to LogAI and ship straight from an order: compare live courier rates, book a pickup, print the label and manifest, and let courier scans move your orders through Shipped, Out for delivery and Delivered on their own.

9 min read · Last updated

Connect a courier account and LogAI books the shipment for you: real rates from inside the order, an AWB and a scheduled pickup, a printable label, and courier scans that move the order through Shipped → Out for delivery → Delivered without anyone touching a status dropdown. Shiprocket is the supported provider today; the plumbing is carrier-neutral, so more can be added without changing anything you set up.

Two different “shipping” screens: Settings → Integrations → Shipping connects the courier — that's this page. Settings → Stores → Shipping sets what the customer pays for delivery. They're independent: you can charge for delivery without a courier account, and vice versa.

Connect Shiprocket

Open Settings → Integrations → Shipping. The page is five numbered steps with a progress strip at the top; steps 02–05 unlock once step 01 is connected.

  1. 01 — Connect your account. Shiprocket needs a dedicated API user (free, takes two minutes): in Shiprocket go to Settings → API → Configure → Create an API user, and give it an email *different* from your Shiprocket login — it doesn't need a real inbox. Enter that email and password here and click Save & connect. Credentials are stored encrypted; Test connection re-verifies them any time.
  2. 02 — Add a pickup location. This is the address the courier collects from. Give it a nickname, contact name, phone (couriers require one), full address and pincode, and mark one as default. Register pushes it to Shiprocket, or Import pulls in the pickup addresses already on your Shiprocket account.
  3. 03 — Set a default package. Weight in kg and length / breadth / height in cm, used whenever a product carries no measurements of its own — that's what keeps every order shippable. Couriers bill the higher of actual and volumetric weight (L×B×H ÷ 5000), so real per-product values give the most accurate prices.
  4. 04 — Choose your preferences. Automatic order status (on by default) lets courier scans drive the order status and send the usual customer emails. How should couriers be chosen? sets the fallback when you don't pick one yourself: Shiprocket's pick, Cheapest, Fastest, or Always ask me.
  5. 05 — Turn on live tracking. Copy the Webhook URL shown here, and generate a token with Generate new token (shown once — copy it). In Shiprocket's panel under Settings → API → Webhooks, paste the URL and set the token as the x-api-key header. The badge flips to Receiving updates after the first push arrives.

The webhook is optional but worth it: Without it, LogAI still polls Shiprocket for tracking every 30 minutes, so nothing is lost — updates just arrive later. The checklist at the top of the page also flags Customer emails: shipping notifications go out through your own SMTP settings.

Ship an order

Open any order in Commerce → Accounts → Orders — storefront orders and Point of Sale sales alike — and find the Shipment section in its sidebar. Shipping unlocks once the order reaches Processed or Confirmed.

  1. Click Ship with Shiprocket. The ship dialog opens with the pickup location and the package pre-filled from the products in the order. If any product has no weight or size, a warning says your default package was used — correct the figures here if this parcel is different, then Recalculate rates.
  2. Compare couriers. LogAI checks serviceability for the delivery pincode and lists every courier that can take it, with its price and estimated delivery time; Shiprocket's suggestion carries a Recommended badge. Cash-on-Delivery orders show exactly how much the courier will collect.
  3. Book the shipment. Book shipment creates the order with Shiprocket, assigns the AWB, schedules the pickup and generates the shipping label in one go.
  4. Print and hand over. The section now shows the courier, tracking number (click to copy), estimated delivery and pickup date, with Label and Manifest buttons and a Track on courier site link. Refresh tracking pulls the latest scans on demand.

Counter sales don't need a courier: If an order ships to your own store address — the signature of a walk-in POS sale — the shipment card says so before you book. At the POS itself the ticket already shows how many couriers serve the customer's pincode and lets the operator pre-pick one, which is then pre-selected in the ship dialog as “Chosen at sale”.

What happens automatically after that

Every courier scan — pushed by the webhook, or picked up by the 30-minute poll — is normalized, added to the shipment's timeline, and (with Automatic order status on) applied to the order:

Courier scanOrder becomesWhat else happens
Picked up / In transitShippedThe shipped email goes to the customer, now carrying the courier name, tracking number and a tracking link.
Out for deliveryOut for deliveryThe out-for-delivery email goes out.
DeliveredDeliveredThe delivery email goes out and the invoice is created automatically.
Delivery attempted (NDR)unchangedThe shipment is flagged so you can chase it; the order stays Shipped.
Returning to origin (RTO)RTO initiated → RTO deliveredWhen the parcel is back with you, a Restore stock button offers to put sellable items back into inventory.
Lost / DamagedFailedRaise the claim with the courier; you can still edit the order manually.
Cancelled at the courierback to ConfirmedThe order becomes shippable again so you can book a fresh shipment.

Out-of-order scans can't confuse it: Shipment events only ever move forward (with sensible exceptions like a re-attempt after a failed delivery), duplicates are ignored, and a Delivered order is never walked backwards. If you turn Automatic order status off, tracking still updates the timeline — LogAI just stops touching the order, and statuses stay yours to set. Orders you've manually cancelled or refunded are never overridden either way.

When something goes wrong

  • Booking stalled part-way — the error is shown on the shipment with a Retry booking step button that resumes from where it failed instead of creating a duplicate.
  • Wrong courier or wrong addressCancel shipment is available until the parcel is picked up; after cancelling, the order goes back to being shippable.
  • A finished shipment that needs redoing — once a shipment is delivered, cancelled or returned, Book a new shipment appears for orders that are still shippable.
  • No courier serves the pincode — the rate list comes back empty, and at the POS the ticket warns before the sale is even completed. COD availability is checked separately from prepaid.
  • Rates look wrong — nearly always missing product measurements. Add weight and L×B×H to the products in the order; a note on the shipment tells you when the default package was used.

Access

Connecting the courier, pickup locations and preferences need the Settings permission (Editor). Booking, cancelling, refreshing and printing from an order need the Commerce permission (Editor). The Shipment section only appears for organizations with the Ecom module enabled.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a paid Shiprocket plan?

You need a Shiprocket account and an API user created under Settings → API → Configure. The API user must use a different email from your Shiprocket login — Shiprocket requires that — and it doesn't need a working inbox.

Why is the Ship button missing on an order?

Either the order hasn't reached Processed or Confirmed yet, or no courier account is connected — in which case the section shows a “Set up shipping” link instead.

Do I have to set up the webhook?

No. Without it LogAI polls Shiprocket every 30 minutes for shipments that haven't updated recently. The webhook simply makes tracking near-instant.

Will the customer see the tracking number?

Yes — once the parcel moves, the shipped, out-for-delivery and delivered emails include the courier name, the tracking number and a tracking link. Those emails send through your own SMTP settings.

What happens if a parcel comes back (RTO)?

The order moves to RTO initiated and then RTO delivered as the courier returns it. RTO orders never auto-invoice. When it's back with you, use Restore stock on the shipment to return sellable items to inventory.

Can I still set order statuses by hand?

Yes. Turn off Automatic order status and courier scans only update the shipment timeline. Even with it on, orders you've cancelled or refunded yourself are left alone, and a delivered order is never moved backwards.

Where do weights come from?

From the product or variant in the order — weight plus length, breadth and height. Anything missing falls back to the default package you set in step 03, and the shipment says so. Couriers bill on the higher of actual and volumetric weight (L×B×H ÷ 5000).

Can I ship POS and storefront orders the same way?

Yes — both are ordinary Commerce orders, so the same Shipment section, rates and tracking apply. Only walk-in sales shipping to your own address are flagged as probably not needing a courier.
