Delivery charges & the pricing ladder

Decide what your customers pay for delivery: build a gap-free pricing ladder by order total, add flat, percentage or per-unit rates, apply GST via HSN codes, and target special rates at products, categories, dates or cart size.

Settings → Stores → Shipping decides what the customer pays for delivery. It is separate from booking the actual courier — this page is your price list, and it applies to storefront checkouts and Point of Sale orders alike.

The screen has two tabs. Delivery Ladder is the everyday one: a set of price ranges by order total that covers every cart. Custom Rules is for everything else — festive offers, category-only rates, per-item pricing.

Build the delivery ladder

LogAI checks the cart total before shipping and applies exactly one rate. The ladder is the visual bar at the top of the tab: click a range to split it, drag a divider to move where the next rate begins.

  1. Set the first rate. With no ladder yet, click the empty bar to create your first range. It always starts at ₹0 and is open-ended — a single rate that covers every cart is a perfectly valid ladder.
  2. Split it into ranges. Click a range (or Add another rate) and choose where it splits — e.g. split at ₹999 to charge ₹80 below and Free above. Each new range is created for you with the correct boundaries.
  3. Adjust the boundaries. Drag a divider on the bar, or open a tier card's boundary action, to move where one rate ends and the next begins. LogAI rewrites both neighbours so no cart total ever falls through a gap.
  4. Check the preview. The badge reads N ranges · continuous when the ladder is healthy. Each tier card below spells out in words when it applies and what the customer pays.

The ladder must cover every cart: Active cart-value rules have to start at ₹0, run contiguously with no overlaps, and end with one open-ended range. Saving something that breaks those rules is rejected with a message like “Active cart-value shipping rules must be contiguous and non-overlapping.” If older rules leave a hole, a Needs attention alert lists exactly what to fix.

The four charge types

TypeWhat the customer pays
FreeNothing. Use it for the top of the ladder (“free delivery above ₹999”). Tax fields are disabled.
Flat RateOne fixed amount, whatever the cart holds.
PercentageA percentage of the order total.
Per UnitAn amount for the first unit, plus a separate Amount for additional item for every extra unit of the same item beyond the first.

Tax on delivery

Any paid charge can toggle Enable Tax and pick one of your HSN codes. The delivery fee is then taxed at that code's rate and shows in the order's GST breakdown alongside the line items — the same IGST / CGST + SGST split used on invoices.

Custom rules

The Custom Rules tab holds shipping options that aren't plain cart-value tiers. Because they carry at least one extra condition, they sit outside the ladder and never break its coverage.

  • Item countMin Items / Max Items, e.g. a bulk rate from 10 units up.
  • Date windowStart date / End date for a festive free-delivery run.
  • Categories — applies only when the cart contains those categories.
  • Products — applies only when the cart contains those specific products.
  • Cart value — combined with any of the above, e.g. free delivery over ₹2,000 on furniture only.

What the shopper sees: At checkout the storefront asks LogAI for the delivery options valid for that exact cart — subtotal, item count, categories and products are all evaluated server-side, so an option a cart doesn't qualify for is never offered. The chosen option, its amount and its tax are snapshotted onto the order, so later edits to your rates never rewrite past orders.

Everyday housekeeping

Rules have a name (shown to the shopper, e.g. “Standard Post”, “Express”), an optional description, an Active switch, and a sort order. Search filters the list, and deactivating a rule is the safe way to retire it — but remember that deactivating a ladder tier leaves a hole, so re-check the ladder afterwards.

Access

Delivery charges need the Settings permission — Viewer to look, Editor to create, edit, or delete. The same screen is embedded in the store setup wizard under “Deliver orders”.

Frequently asked questions

How do I offer free delivery above a certain amount?

Build a two-step ladder: split at your threshold (say ₹999), set the lower range to Flat Rate with your normal fee, and set the upper open-ended range to Free.

Why won't my shipping rule save?

Active cart-value rules must cover every possible cart: start at ₹0, be contiguous with no overlaps, and finish with a single open-ended range. The error message names which of those it broke. Rules that carry item-count, date, category or product conditions are exempt — they're custom rules, not ladder tiers.

Can I charge GST on delivery?

Yes — toggle Enable Tax on the charge and select an HSN code from your organization's tax settings. The delivery tax appears in the order's GST breakdown.

What's the difference between the ladder and custom rules?

The ladder is pure cart-value tiering and must cover every total without gaps. Custom rules carry extra conditions — item counts, date windows, specific categories or products — and are evaluated independently of the ladder.

How does Per Unit pricing work?

You set an amount for the item, plus an Amount for additional item. Buying two or more of the same item charges the first amount once and the additional amount for each extra unit.

Do these charges have anything to do with what the courier bills me?

No. This is what your customer pays. What the courier charges you is quoted when you book the shipment and depends on real weight, dimensions and the delivery pincode.
